웃다리 사물놀이

Utdari Samulnori

Utdari Samulnori (웃다리 사물놀이) features four percussion instruments and is a version of Pungmul that is generally performed indoors. The piece starts quietly and slowly builds to a thrilling finale that features a duet between two kkwaengarri players. 

상모 판굿

Sangmo Pankut

Sangmo Pankut features all performers wearing a special spinning hat called sangmo. While performing, all players dance, play, and spin the sangmo simultaneously. Various formations are performed until the piece concludes with individual solos. 

길놀이

Gilnori

Gilnori is typically performed at the beginning of an event to gather and interact with the audience. All performers play standing up with instruments strapped to their bodies. The piece has also been adapted for parade formations. 

설장구

Sul Janggu

Sul Janggu highlights the rhythmic complexity of the hourglass-shaped drum, the janggu. Different versions of Sul Janggu can be performed sitting down or while dancing. The piece can be a solo or a group performance.

삼도 사물놀이

Samdo Samulnori

Samdo Samulnori combines many different rhythms and movements unique to the different types of music from the three major provincial areas in Korea. Like Utdari Samulnori, Samdo Samulnori concludes with a duet between two kwaengarri players. 

영남 사물놀이

Youngnam Samulnori

Youngnam Samulnori is another variation of Samulnori whose rhythms originated from the Youngnam region of the Kyoungsang province in Korea. The piece is distinguished by brief vocalizations in between rhythms.
