In April 2018, members of the San Diego Korean American Association and Korean Culture Festival Committee hosted the 1st Annual Korean American Grassroots Conference (KAGC) in San Diego to encourage civic engagement and grassroots activism in the Korean American community. Since then, KAGC in San Diego has become an annual event, drawing students, community leaders, and performers from all over San Diego County and its surrounding areas. Previous speakers include the founder of KAGC, Dongsuk Kim, award-winning TV show host and producer, Cathlyn Choi, and political director for the San Diego County Building and Construction Trades Council, Carol Kim.
KAGC is the largest nationwide network of Korean American voters. Its national conference draws over 600 community members from over 110 districts across 31 states every summer to Washington, D.C.
